Dr. Maxwell Helfgott, a native Washingtonian, received a BA from Grinnell College and his medical degree from George Washington University. After internship at St. Vincent’s Hospital in NYC, he completed his ophthalmology residency and chief residency at Washington Hospital Center in 1976.
He has since been in private practice specializing in anterior segment eye surgery including cataract, cornea, glaucoma, and refractive surgery.
Dr. Helfgott served as chairman of Department of Ophthalmology at Washington Hospital Center from 1995 to 2010, and has been recognized on multiple occasions as a Top Doctor by Washingtonian Magazine.
